Next generation networking

You might think that our national, fibre optic network would be a huge asset for UK business - and it is. No other company has a Next Generation Network (NGN) like this for the robust, high bandwidth telecommunications that modern organisations need. With our Next Generation Network, you can cut costs by taking advantage of voice and data convergence, quickly send large volumes of data between sites or implement disaster recovery plans and secure centralised data storage. Our end-to-end network ownership, encompassing both core backbone and local loop connections, enables us to offer you the highest possible standards of security, resilience and quality of service.

As the UK’s leading cable provider, we've deployed our own, advanced access network. This is the largest privately built network in the UK with 330 Ethernet PoPs over our own national footprint. Following a £13 billion investment in our network, we provide Carrier Ethernet services over a fibre MPLS core rather than over older technologies such as ATM or SONET. The £13billion network is flexible, scaleable and is already built out to more than 38,000 street cabinets across the UK.

As our fibre network is already deployed to the kerb it's closer to you, making it easy and quick to extend fibre directly into your premises. This means that we can deliver Ethernet directly over fibre rather than relying on legacy technologies. As a result of all this, our services are more flexible, provide better throughput and deliver improved performance characteristics to our customers. For instance, our MEF14 certified Ethernet services can support the most stringent real time communications applications including VOIP and HD quality videoconferencing.
